Teacher, Motivator, and Mentor

My name is Charlie and I’ve been working on basketball with Aaron Walsh for over a year. He has helped with all parts of basketball, dribbling, shooting, defense, and decision-making. Those are all important, but the most important thing I’ve learned about basketball from Aaron is different. It is attitude. He’s taught me about the importance of having a positive attitude and keeping your composure throughout our time together. Aaron also believes in you, know matter what. That is what you want in a coach, and one of the reasons I keep on going back to the gym with him.

When it comes to skills work, I wouldn’t be where I’m at now without him. Every time, we start out with dribbling drills, and always end with king of the court or a scrimmage. In between those two things though is where I’ve learned the correct shooting form, different moves, and much more. Sometimes we’ll do up and down stairs, but he always includes pushups in conditioning. I’ve really appreciated how he includes that because fitness is important in basketball. He also stresses defense. My in-game defense has improved dramatically because of him. He teaches where to be on defense and help defense. Aaron also understands basketball better than anyone I’ve ever met, which is important for training. To end the workout, he always gives a message, for example: “Having a positive attitude and good work ethic gets you minutes over talent and a bad attitude.” Coach Aaron Walsh is a great teacher and mentor.

Working out with Coach Walsh this past summer was fun. Got to workout with really good players that pushed me to get better everyday. After workouts I would get the chance to play pick up against some of the best players in the area. Sometimes I matched up against overseas pros and division one guards in games. Going from playing these guys all summer, to playing against my division 3 competition at catholic really gave me the confidence I needed going into my junior season.

Coach Walsh is an outstanding trainer. He has an incredible knowledge of the game and can help improve the skill of any position. His passion for teaching was immediately evident and made it enjoyable to work on my game. I can’t thank Coach Walsh enough for helping make me a more skilled and intelligent player.

Coach Aaron is a real life mentor. His positive philosophy and approach to learning was evident from the very first session with Daniel. As Coach Aaron often tells our son, “anyone can practice a lot but if they are not practicing the right thing they won’t improve at anything they try to do”.

He has pushed Daniel to levels beyond anything we believed he was capable of. Coach Aaron helped him believe he could accomplish great things if he put in the maximum effort, in basketball, and in everything he does. Coach Aaron can be tough, but that is because he has such a great passion for his students, he wants the best from them, to stay focused in each and every session. Daniel has taken to heart the lessons Coach Aaron gives during workouts, to never quit, to apply them to his life as well, it has really shown in a positive attitude and how he approaches personal challenges, in his sports activities, personal conditioning and towards his schoolwork.
